Zariantz Grotesk — Where Precision Meets Personality
Zariantz Grotesk Variable is a contemporary sans serif typeface inspired by a quiet walk through the historic streets of Casamassima, Puglia — where a commemorative plaque honors Hrand Zariantz, the renowned Armenian-Italian writer, poet, and journalist. That historical serendipity sparked the creation of a versatile, high-performance variable font built for modern typographic design.
Rooted in a narrow grotesque structure, Zariantz Grotesk balances handcrafted human warmth with mathematical clarity. Every curve and counter has been calibrated with optical precision, resulting in a typeface that adapts seamlessly from identity systems to dense editorial layouts, digital UI interfaces, and architectural signage.
Typographic Versatility & Quirks:
- Narrow Silhouette: Highly economical footprint that preserves readability even in tight columns and compact mobile screens.
- Three Dynamic Angles: Features Standard uprights, matching true Italics, and an unconventional Reversed Italic (Contra-Slant) for bold, rebellious display typesetting.
- Built-in Arrow Suite: Complete set of geometric multidirectional arrows matching font stem weights for wayfinding and infographic systems.
- Full Variable Control: Continuous adjustment of weight and forward/backward slant.
Features & Specifications:
- 21 Static Styles: Thin to Black with matching Italics and Contra-Italics
- Variable Font: Full 3-axis variable file (wght, ital, slnt)
- Glyph Count: 471 glyphs with extensive multilingual coverage
- Pro OpenType Features: Old-style figures, case-sensitive forms, alternate glyphs, numerators/denominators (0–9), standard ligatures, and wayfinding arrows
Recommended Applications:
- Architectural signage, airport/museum wayfinding, and spatial graphics
- Digital products, SaaS branding, and responsive mobile interfaces
- Contemporary poster design, exhibition catalogues, and cultural branding
